Interac Corp., one of Canada’s leading payments brands, has announced wide spread availability of its Interac Debit m-commerce solutions for In-App and In-Browser Payments with Apple Pay and Google Pay, across the nation.

Canadians can now use these services when making payments within apps and mobile websites.

Interac Debit on Apple Pay or Google Pay for in-store purchases is already used by Canadians at hundreds of thousands of merchants across the nation. The company expanding its e-commerce offerings further into mobile allows Canadians an even easier and securer way to spend their money when making mobile payments via websites and within apps.

Interac Debit cardholders from financial institutions such as ATB, Coast Capital, Canada’s Credit Unions, National Bank, Desjardins, Scotiabank and Tangerine, can now make in-app and in-browser purchases from participating merchants.

Among those merchants accepting the Interac Debit m-commerce Apple Pay and Google Pay solution include SkipTheDishes, Second Cup, Maison Simons, Shell Canada, MTY Group, and foodora, among others.

Interac Debit m-commerce will help to provide more seamless customer experiences.

“In an increasingly digital world, Canadian consumers and businesses alike are looking for seamless customer experiences,” said Nader Henin, AVP, Commerce at Interac, according to a recent press release.

“As we see a rapid shift towards mobile commerce and the growing demand for online shopping, broader acceptance of Interac Debit on Apple Pay or Google Pay with merchants across Canada means greater choice for Canadians to pay whenever and however they want and stay in control of their money,” Henin added.

Across Canada, shopping behaviors are shifting form online to mobile apps and websites. As a result, Canadians are seeking new and seamless ways to make their purchases via mobile.

The press release from Interac Corp. notes that a May 2019 eMarketer Report says that retail mobile commerce spend in Canada is anticipated to reach CA$16 billion ($12.1 billion) by the end of 2019. Furthermore, it is forecasted to reach $30 billion ($22.7 billion) by 2023. This represents 35% of all retail e-commerce sales.
